Turtle of the Day - Dollar Store Refugee

So a few months ago I was in the dollar store - I needed to get some "diaper disposal bags" for Hubby's mom, who had just gotten a new dog. They are great for poops of whatever kind, and at 100 bags for a buck, a great deal.

While browsing to find some other things (can't remember what now - I think it was envelopes) there was a bit of a "scene" in the store because someone rang up wanting cash back on a debit card purchase, and the cashier hit the wrong key and the woman wanted her $5+ change RIGHT THEN - with lines stretching to the back of the store. Since the manager/owner had to make the correction, she was asked to wait until he cleared a customer through the register he was operating - and this woman pitched a total hissy fit, to the point where they asked her to leave the store or she would be removed.

Riots at the Dollar Store -who woulda thunk.

But given the scene at the registers, I hung out a bit longer than usual and came across this cute little fella, who is now hiding out in my huge patch of lavender. Hope he gets along well with the bees that will be moving in as soon as the flowers open.

The Back Story

Lazy Sister Sue told me I needed to spill the back story on how we happened to get the "playground" for Nathan. When I started to tell her, she started laughing and said I have great stories -so I decided to share the "nitty gritty details." (Warning -this is long and convoluted, so only stick around if you want...)

As most of you should know by now, I am a member of the Churchville Lions Club, Churchville, NY. Not only am I a member, I am a past president (actually took maternity leave for the Munchkin during my term as president!!!) - but lately I have been spotty in attendance. Hubby is also a member, so we try to tag team on Tuesday nights and send on or the other to a meeting, but they have been few and far between.

Two weeks ago I decided at 6:15PM that I was going to head up to the meeting after dinner, as I had not been to one in a while. During the meeting, our President-Elect asked me to stay after for another little committee meeting, as he was turning control of a committee I am on over to a new chair.

That new chair is also a "sometimes-Lion" - comes to maybe 2 meetings a year. He lives in the subdivision behind my house.

After our little meeting, I casually asked Joe, the "sometimes Lion" if his family was participating in the community wide yard sale that coming weekend - mainly because I know he has 3 boys and would probably have stuff for sale that would be good for the Munchkin.

His response - "Why - do you want the ...thingy?" - and he gestured like he was outlining a roof and walls.

Knowing he had a "playground" I nearly held my breath while he groped for the right word - hoping that he indeed meant the playground and not their basketball hoop, which we already have.

YES! It was the playground - and then I held my breath after I asked "how much are you asking" and he stopped to think...

And you already know the rest of the story.
